Lavsen Dahal worked as a Research Associate at NAAMII from June 2019 to September 2020. He primarily worked with Dr Bishesh Khanal on two projects – Automatic Cobb angle detection from Chest radiography images and Uncertainty quantification in 2D echocardiography images.

As one of the first staff of NAAMII in Nepal, he also assisted in several administrative duties as well as organizing Second Winter School in AI in Nepal. Lavsen Dahal has an Erasmus+ Master’s degree in Medical Imaging and Applications as a fully-funded European Union Scholar and was the first Nepali citizen to complete this course. His Master thesis was on Deep learning methods for Image Reconstruction.

He is currently working as an Associate in Research at the Center for Virtual Imaging Trials (CVIT) lab, Duke University, USA. His current research contributions include developing a framework to generate large populations of virtual patients to advance medical imaging research and developing advanced deep learning algorithms for automated reading of clinical medical images as well as simulated images obtained from virtual patients.

Lavsen Dahal is also the co-founder of medical imaging startup Maya.ai which is primarily focused on providing training and courses in the technology sector in Nepal that would culminate in the founding of a technological research university in Nepal.

His current research interests include interpretable artificial intelligence, graph neural networks, automated quality control with domain adaptation, and uncertainty quantification.
