About Computational Genomics Lab

The Computational Genomics Lab leads innovative research at the intersection of genomics, bioinformatics, and AI to address critical challenges in diseases including Tuberculosis, Dengue, SARS-CoV-2, Diabetes, and Cancer. Our current research focuses on addressing critical challenges in multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis through the innovative use of advanced bioinformatics and machine learning techniques.

Brief description of project

Multi-drug resistance presents a growing challenge to global tuberculosis (TB) control efforts, with a particularly pressing concern in developing nations where robust disease surveillance and monitoring are lacking. Nonetheless, the genetic foundations of drug resistance in TB are not fully understood. Identifying new drug-resistant TB mutations is challenging given the genetic diversity of TB and the complex mechanisms driving the drug resistance. Furthermore, developing vaccines effective against TB infection could drastically reduce transmission and the emergence of new drug-resistant TB cases. To address these challenges, we will develop machine learning approaches to predict, understand, and prevent drug-resistant TB.
