Project: Improving Access to Safe Abortion Information and Services in Nepal with an AI-based Chatbot 

Position: Conversation Designer

Location: On-site

About the Project:

NAAMII, in collaboration with DIYO.AI and Visible Impact, is developing an AI-based chatbot to provide safe abortion information and services in Nepal. The chatbot will be integrated into social media platforms and messaging apps, offering confidential, accurate, and empathetic support in both English and Nepali. The project has been funded by Amplify change.

Responsibilities:

• Design User-Centric Conversations: Craft sensitive, non-judgmental dialogues that ensure clarity, accuracy, and empathy. 

• Understand User Needs: Research the target audience, identify common intents, and design strategies for handling emotional or crisis-driven conversations. 

• Develop Dialogue Flows: Create structured, adaptive conversation flows, including decision trees, fallback responses, and personalized interactions. 

• Ensure Compliance: Collaborate with healthcare and legal experts to ensure medically accurate and legally compliant messaging. 

• Optimize for Inclusivity: Adapt conversations for multilingual support and ensure culturally sensitive, inclusive language. 

• Collaborate with AI Engineers: Provide design specifications for NLP training and work with developers to improve intent recognition and response accuracy. 

• Conduct User Testing: Run usability tests, analyze feedback, and refine dialogues based on user interactions and AI-driven insights. 

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in communication, Linguistics, Psychology, Medical Science, or a related field. 

• Experience:  

• Prior experience in designing conversational flow for chatbots, or voice assistants with a focus on user engagement, clarity, and empathy. 

• Experience in conducting user research, understanding audience behaviour, and designing strategies for handling emotional or crisis-driven interactions. 

• Familiarity with medical or reproductive health topics, particularly safe abortion services, and understanding of relevant legal frameworks. 

• Experience in designing chatbot interactions in both English and Nepali, ensuring inclusivity and cultural sensitivity. 

• Experience in conducting user testing, analysing feedback, and refining chatbot dialogues based on real-world interactions. 

Skills:

• Strong understanding of user-centered design principles. 

• Ability to craft empathetic, non-judgmental dialogues for sensitive topics. 

• Familiarity with NLP and chatbot development processes. 

• Knowledge of medical or legal compliance in healthcare communication is a plus.
