Shishir Raj Adhikari is interested in studying complex systems. At NAAMII, he plans to work in three different areas:

Machine Learning Research (Theory/Application)

He is fascinated by the dynamics of Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) and its ability to navigate the high-dimensional loss landscape while yielding models that generalize remarkably well. Despite its success, our understanding of how SGD manages to achieve this feat remains limited. His research interest lies in unraveling the underlying mechanisms that enable SGD to converge to well-generalizing solutions.

Furthermore, he is motivated to leverage low-cost and accessible technologies to address pressing challenges in Nepal, particularly in the domains of healthcare and agriculture. He plans to work on innovative solutions that can positively impact the lives of people in these crucial sectors.

Incubator/Startups

He had the opportunity to work at a state-funded incubator in the US, where he gained invaluable insights into the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Inspired by this experience, he wants to contribute to the incubator at NAAMII by providing access to resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Additionally, he wants to build startups that address key challenges in sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.

Education

Recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of machine learning, he is committed to contributing to the development of comprehensive educational curricula that not only impart theoretical knowledge but also cultivate practical problem-solving skills. By collaborating with educational institutions, he wants to design curricula that strike a balance between theoretical rigor and hands-on application, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary tools to tackle real-world challenges effectively.
